Taking Climate Into Account When Choosing Siding

There are a lot of siding options in the market nowadays. All of them claim to be good and functional and that they protect your home properly. However, there are differences between them—and not all siding options fit your home. Pritchett Roofing Inc. is here to explain how you should consider the climate when choosing the correct siding for your home.

Vinyl

Vinyl siding is an incredibly popular choice among homeowners. Because of its wide range of quality and styles, you will surely find something that you will love. Good-quality vinyl siding functions well in any type of climate. Whether it’s hot or cold, there is vinyl siding for you. If you live in some of the colder areas of the country, you may want to consider insulated vinyl siding as protection against wind, rain and snow.

Stucco

Stucco can provide great insulation for your home. This is best used by homeowners who live in the warmer and drier areas of the country. Stucco doesn’t mix well with water and snow, so that is something you have to consider. If there is too much moisture, your stucco may crumble. However, this can be controlled with a moisture barrier between your stucco siding and its substrate material.

Fiber Cement

This type of siding is best used for homes along the coast. This siding is resistant to salt air, humidity and is fire-resistant. Even if you do not live along the coast, it’s still a good choice of siding, especially if you want to prevent heat transfer.

Masonry

Masonry such as brick can also be used as a siding material. This is best used for homes in hotter areas of the country. Like stucco, you can wind up with a water problem if this is installed incorrectly, or there is no proper vapor barrier behind the brick veneer. For colder or wetter areas of the country, you can still use brick siding, but it’s not the best option.
